AI is now solving mathematical problems!

So far no computer has been able to solve the International Mathematical Olympiad problem. But a new artificial intelligence 'Alphageometry' has succeeded in solving these problems. Amazed the world by solving dozens of theorems. Learn about that artificial intelligence…

International Mathematical Olympiad is one of the most prestigious mathematics competitions for school-college students. Every year students from all over the world compete for bronze, silver and gold medals. Soon artificial intelligence programs can compete with the world's best mathematicians!

In January this year, a new artificial intelligence led by Google DeepMind and Trew H. Trin of New York University in the United States was unveiled. It is called alphageometry. The research paper was published in the renowned science journal Nature.

As mentioned earlier, scientists select 30 geometric problems for alphageometry testing. These have been questions in the International Mathematical Olympiad from 2000 to the present. A program known as Wu's algorithm is said to solve these problems. It managed to solve only 10 problems. ChatGPT-4 has got absolutely 'Golla' in this case. Means, could not solve even one question. But this new alphageometry solves 25 problems. According to the researchers, this score is better than most competitors in the International Mathematical Olympiad. Because students were able to solve an average of 15.2 of these 30 problems. But the gold medalists managed to solve an average of 25.9. Of course, there are problems. As I said before, these AI problems are solved very succinctly. But they were accurate, albeit brief.

Students have to solve 6 problems in two days in International Math Olympiad. Some of these problems are so complex that even experts struggle to solve them. Alphageometry has solved such problems.

The researchers reported that the new artificial intelligence was able to solve 25 geometric problems out of the 30 old problems of the International Mathematical Olympiad. In reality, a student who solves this number of problems is awarded a gold medal. This AI was given to solve problems in the 2004 International Mathematical Olympiad. It very precisely shows the same problem in different ways.

Students have to solve 6 problems in two days in International Math Olympiad. Some of these problems are so complex that even experts struggle to solve them. Alphageometry has solved such problems. But the solutions have been short-lived. For this, researchers believe, artificial intelligence needs to apply more creative skills.

Worried to hear? No, now is not the time to worry about this artificial intelligence. Because these geometrical problems are only 1/3 of the entire Olympiad. However, there is no way to assert that AI will not be able to solve those problems in the future. Who knows, maybe a few years later a non-human (AI) will participate in an international math Olympiad, win a gold medal!
